What is this feature?

Moving apps to workspace allows you to transfer apps you’ve created from one workspace to another within your organization. This feature helps you reorganize your projects without the need to remix or duplicate apps when your workspace needs change. This is particularly useful when you initially create an app in one workspace but later decide it would be better suited in a different workspace, or when you need to transfer personal projects to team workspaces.
You can only move apps to other workspaces within the same organization. Moving between private workspaces is not supported. You must be a workspace owner to use this feature.

Why Use App Moving

1

Correct workspace placement

Move apps that were accidentally created in the wrong workspace or apps that need to be moved to another workspace to their intended location without losing work.
2

Avoid duplicate apps

Transfer apps directly instead of remixing, which prevents having multiple outdated copies of the same project.
3

Streamline organization

Reorganize your projects as your workspace structure evolves without complex multi-step processes.
4

Maintain app history

Preserve all app data and development history when transferring between workspaces.

How to move an app to a different workspace

Look for the move app option in your app settings. Remember, you must be a workspace owner to access this feature.

When would I want to move an app?

Correcting Initial Placement

Sometimes you might start building an app in your personal workspace but realize it should be in a team workspace for collaboration.
  • In this example, I initially created a customer service chatbot in my personal workspace.
  • After building it out, I realized the marketing team needs to collaborate on it, so I move it to the marketing workspace.

Evolving Project Needs

As projects grow and requirements change, you might need to move apps to workspaces that better align with their current purpose.

Tips for Moving Apps

Best Practices

  • Plan workspace structure: Consider your long-term organization needs, but don’t let perfect planning prevent you from starting to build.
  • Check permissions: Ensure you have workspace owner permissions in both the source and destination workspaces.
  • Review dependencies: Before moving, check if your app uses any workspace-specific references or libraries.
  • Communicate changes: Let team members know when you’ve moved shared apps to new workspaces.
  • Clean up regularly: Use the move feature to maintain organized workspaces instead of accumulating outdated remixes.

Important Limitations

Workspace Reference Libraries

Apps that use references from workspace libraries cannot be moved. You’ll need to:
  1. Remove any workspace library references from your app
  2. Try the move operation again
  3. Re-add references from the destination workspace’s library if needed

Permission Requirements

  • You must be a workspace owner to see and use this feature
  • You can only move apps to workspaces where you have app creation permissions
  • Moving between private workspaces is not supported
